Travel, training, eating and thanks.

Well I learned a few things last week about training, eating well and traveling. I learned they are hard!  I did manage to get in a run of some sort with one day of rest. What I found extremely challenging was eating well. I found myself often making excuses like “hey I am on vacation” to justify me having something bad. i.e  sweet tea, chocolate chip cookies, etc. The other thing I found is it is tough when eating out to find really healthy choices on menus at restaurants. You really have to be “that guy” and special order everything that you want or you just suck it up.

The other side of this was that I found that I was very happy to get back to my routine where I had the items I enjoy and the tools to make them. After almost 2 months now I have made a lot of changes to my diet and my taste have changed. I actually crave less sugar but still have to have it in my coffee. I have still not had alcohol of any sort since this began and I am finding that I really don’t miss it that much and I feel100% better. The gastro issues that I have had almost entirely went away as well. So this whole being healthy thing does work!

The next two challenges I face will begin the beginning of November. The first one is I start my training with my new coach Amy Avery at Pure Bravery. I am excited and scared. I just have to remember to listen to her. The second challenge is that Lindsay and I are both going to adhere to plant based diets for a month. Lindsay ordered the book ” The Plantpower Way-Whole Food Plant-Based Recipes and Guidance for The Whole Family by Rich Roll and Julie Piatt”. Mind you this is not a diet book but a lifestyle change. I have written about the influence Rich Roll has had on me and I really believe in what he writes about. His own story speaks for itself. I highly encourage you again to get his book “Finding Ultra”.

A lot of change is going on with me. I read a Bible verse this morning that spoke to me about all the change. Isaiah 43:19 ” See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.” Wow, is what I thought. I was a bit of a wasteland and God truly is making streams in my life. Think of how exciting it would be to find a stream in a wasteland. Well I can tell you God is creating one with in me and its exciting. I am not on to preach and please don’t be put off but in order for change I believe you need a Higher Power. No matter what that is so if you want to change then find your Higher Power.

One last note and shout out to some one in my family. I just want to say “thank you” to my Aunt Robin Wilson. She did something so easy but it meant the world to me last week. She told me she was proud of me! I cannot tell you what that meant to me but I will tell you it puts tears in my eyes as I type this.

With that note I am signing off today. May you be blessed in all that you do today and tomorrow. Until the next post.

Travel and being healthy is hard, especially the healthy eating. I generally try to research ahead of time and get ahold of local groups to find out good places to ride/run/swim if I can so I can stay on track with my workouts. But I find out if I am still getting my workouts in, at least it won’t make as big of difference if I have a couple “cheat” days while on vacation. But I also try to do research on eating places in advance and generally can find some good sources that way as well! Keep up the good work! Also, I will message you some links to my favorite “veggie” websites for some great recipes
