So, I gave in after almost 3 months and had my body fat calculated and weight done again at the gym on Friday. I have to be honest that I was a little nervous as to what the results would be. I can often get ahead of myself and expect to much. Well I am glad to report that my body fat has went from 28.4% to 18.7% and my weight has went from a heavy 220 lbs to 191 lbs. My BMI number has fallen into line as well but I have learned not to pay to much attention to that number.
So what have I learned in this short amount of time? Quite a few things.
- Be patient. It takes time.
- Plan, plan and plan. Plan your time at gym, your day, what you eat and almost every aspect of what you do daily and weekly.
- Hire a coach. It makes a difference especially if you have not taken on a task such as an IM 70.3. They are your accountability partner.
- Don’t get discourage but get back on track. Some times you may miss a work out or you do not eat well. Its okay as we are not professional athletes.
- Joining a swim class maybe the smartest thing I have done as it is my weakest of the 3 events. What I have already gained is worth the money I spent.
- Its okay to have a cheat day but after a while you will not even want to have one. Your body and taste will change and the cravings will go away. I tried to drink a coke today. Made it about 1/4 of the way and it was gross.
- If you have a spouse or partner they are as involved as you. It is easy at least for me for it to be all about me. I have to remind myself that this a commitment from my wife and children as well.
- Mental toughness is as important as physical toughness. You have to have both to succeed.
I am sure the list is longer but this is what pops in my mind at the moment. I am sure as the time and training commitment get longer the list will get longer.
Thanks for reading and sharing. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and remember to give THANKS that day for what ever you wish. Until the next time!
