So after almost a couple months of doing this on my own I have decided to take what I consider the next logical step in my goal towards my 70.3. I hired a coach. Why you may be asking yourself. Let me get into that below.
As I have said before I have done a couple events and even had some coaching before but it was a failure. The reason it was a failure was on my part for several reasons. The main reason being, I did not want to listen to my coach. I thought I knew better. Well Nathan, that’s silly. What’s the point in hiring a coach if you do not want to listen? I do not know. So this time around I have made a commitment to myself to listen and follow instruction. The second reason it was a failure is that I was not 100% committed to what I was doing and was not following my workouts. I guess the good thing about failures is the ability to learn from them and fail better.
I talked with a few coaches and the one that I identified with the most and felt the most comfortable with is Amy Avery of Pure Bravery. Amy is an accomplished IronMan (woman), marathoner, USAT certified coach and soon to be certified Ironman coach. She also has multiple masters degrees. One in Theology and one in Clinical Counseling. I think the latter will be important when it comes to coaching me! So I think she has her ducks in a row.
Amy and I begin our journey at the beginning of November. I am again excited and scared about what is to come but I have to remember to listen to my coach. If she says run 3 miles then I only need to run 3 miles not 5 since I feel like I can. No matter what, I do know that having a coach will help me be more successful at my 70.3.
